How We Began ...
Our farm started with a dream many years ago of living in the
country surrounded by animals. Our dream became a reality with our recent move
from Grand Rapids to the Central Michigan area near Carson City. In the evening,
without the pollution of city lights, we can see hundreds of stars because the
sky is so clear. This led to the naming of our farm - Clear Sky Alpacas!
We have been raising and showing Papillons for several years. This has given us
a solid background in researching genetics and an eye for good conformation.
This knowledge combined with Kathy's love of fiber and fiber arts made our
decision to invest in the "alpaca lifestyle" a natural one.
As we researched alpacas, visited farms, and attended shows and seminars, we
learned about both the Huacaya and the Suri breeds of alpacas. Both breeds
provide different characteristics and charm and we knew early in our research
that both breeds would become a part of Clear Sky Alpacas.
Our herd has been chosen with great care. Great fiber comes from healthy animals
of sound mind and body. Our goal has been to chose animals that come from
genetic lines producing fantastic fiber, healthy crias, sound temperament, and
of course, great conformation.
